Canon Rebel XS Digital SLR Camera Review – A Great Low-End SLR Camera

Camera No Comments »

When you’re ready to graduate to a Single-Lens-Reflex camera, the Canon Rebel XS 10.1Mp Digital SLR Camera might be what you’re looking for. When you’re looking at the DSLR lines, it’s a good entry level to this line.

All of the cameras at this price level are incredible, of course. They’ll give you distinct huge photographs that rival anything that a professional might shoot.

However, this Canon is very affordable, being only a little above the price of the high-end point-and-shoot cameras. If people are afraid to pay those big bucks for the big SLR cameras, this might be a good choice.

Here are some of the features of the Canon Rebel XS:

1. When the LCD screen gets up to this camera’s 2.5 inch size, that helps keep the camera compact, yet allow the user to have a good view of what they’re going to be taking a photo of. The menus of these cameras are very important, because they’re how you’ll be navigating when you’re looking to turn on the special features.

2. Since you can purchase the body separate from the lens, this is good because it’s so low priced that you can get a better quality lens to go with it, yet end up with a very reasonable camera for the price.

There are so many features, it will take you weeks before you’re completely knowledgeable about the unit, but most people won’t use all those features. Being a successor to the XSI, it’s quality and overall design is very similar.

Here are some more of the features of the Canon Rebel XS 10.1MP Digital SLR Camera:

1. Ten megapixel is about as much as you want to go when you’re going to manipulate the photos on a computer. Anything above that will have unreasonably large load times when they’re brought into Photoshop. Since the DigicIII sensor in the camera allows the image quality to be better than normal, that ten megapixel will definitely be an advantage.

2. Although, the camera comes with its own software, most people are going to just use Photoshop, if they’re at this level of expertise.

3. One really important feature that the camera offers, which few SLRs offer, is Live View. Some Olympus SLRs offer this. It means that you can see what’s coming through the lens can be seen on the LCD display.

In all fairness, I must mention the cons of the Canon Rebel XS:

1. The Live View takes some getting used to with a digital camera. It means that you’re seeing what’s coming through the lens, not what’s coming through the CCD. That’s a very distinct difference which has to be experienced to understand. The CCD is the integrated circuit which grabs the image. The CCD image might be drastically different than what’s coming through the lens, particularly if you’re shooting into the sun. Many can’t get used to that huge leap of difference, and others love the feature.

2. Also, because there is no spot metering while in live view, that greatly impedes its function.

3. The plastic case makes it look poorer quality than some other cameras of its price range. However, you might appreciate that plastic case; it greatly reduces the camera’s weight. That might be a disadvantage, though, because having less momentum, the camera will shake more.

All-in-all, despite its flaws, the Canon Rebel XS 10.1Mp Digital SLR Camera is a great low-end SLR camera.

You have a digital camera and enjoy taking photos where ever you go. You put your photos on the computer at appropriate moments like after a holiday or event. But what can you do with these photos?

You can:
1. Leave them alone and do nothing apart from look at them from time to time.

2. Edit and enhance them using programs like Picasa, Picture It, Photoshop, Kodak or any other suitable program you may have. Doing this enables you to remove red eye, crop out unwanted areas, brighten up a dark section or entire photo and more. You can even add text and backgrounds to make them specific to various aspects of life eg wedding, birthday, beach etc.

3. Create slide shows or folders on the computer specific to what you want. If you have an external hard drive then you can transfer and sort out photos into topics, on it because photos take up space on your computer and can slow it down.

4 Back up your photos by burning them on CDs and DVDs every seven years to keep uo with the advancement in computer technology.

5. Print your photos out either using your own printer or make use of the specials at the shops and print them out using ther printing equipment. If you do this you can possibly do it straight from your camera, or from a memory stick or CD / DVD once the data is put on them.

6. Create photo album with your hard copies. You could be extra creative and try scrapbooking.

7. Create a photo book of something special like a holiday, wedding. new baby. This is great to give away for a gift or keep yourself ( or both!! )
There are special programs you use for this eg photostyler. So you need the required software to download. I got mine from the local chemist but you can download them from sites on the computer. Basically you create the 20 or more pages ( your choice ) one page at a time using a kind of powerpoint application where you can add backgrounds, text, change positions of the photos and more. You save it and the organise the production of the hard copy by burning it onto a CD to take down to your local chemist for processing. The book will come back to them then for you to pick up.

These programs enable you to also use your photos to create personalised mugs, calenders, posters, stationary. What a great idea for gifts.

8. Create a mind movie around the idea of the law of attraction, which requires a power point kind of software to do. A mind movie consists of a movie of photos set to words and music. If you are keen to find out more go to mindmovies.com

9. Put your photos on various places like Facebook, blogs, websites, flickr to show others.

10. Sell things either second hand or new on online auction sites like ebay and TradeMe.

11. You can earn a little extra money by creating your own online stores on sites like on cafepress ( look up cafepress.com ) and zazzle ( look up zazzle.com ). The items you will be selling range from apparal to mugs to stationary to other gift ideas. The idea is that you put your own photos ( or art works ) on these items and then keep the difference between the wholesale price and retail price. Actually the proceedure is all done online. So you just have to uplad your photos onto your selected item and your product is then created. You get given a link which you can put on any website, blog etc for the advertising of your shop to get traffic. When people want to buy your item they will do it directly through cafepress or zazzle and your set up account will be credited. Just look up the respective sites for more information.

So as you can see there are eleven exciting things you can do with your digital camera photos once you have enjoyed taking the everlasting shots. In fact you could do these things with your film camera photos if you scan the photos onto your computer with the exception of point 6 and 1.

Nikon Coolpix 7900 Camera Review

Nikon Coolpix 7900 camera has been launched more than four years ago, but still it is one of the most popular digital cameras in the world. The reason why this camera is so popular is because it has very good specifications and the price of it isn’t go high.

I’ve bought it more than five months ago and to be honest with you – I am really happy with this product. I am big fan on Nikon and before I’ve bought the 7900 version I had the 3200 version, which was like the “little brother” of the 7900 version.

The picture quality of Nikon Coolpix 7900 camera is awesome, you can really see the difference between 3200 and 7900 versions. It has a lot of cool features such as face recognition which can be very useful if you are planning to take a lot of pictures in a natural environment or in crowded areas.

One of the things that I didn’t like about this camera is that you couldn’t use normal AA batteries. Don’t know why but you had to use the rechargable ones. Personally this wasn’t a big problem for me, yet for some people who like to travel a lot this might be a “tiny” problem. In general the battery life was good – I was able to take a reasonable amount of pictures in two days in a row without having to recharge the batteries.

In a nutshell for less than $200 dollars you get a compact digital camera which has 7.1 megapixels, it weighs less than 150 grams, has ton of cool features and has very good battery life!
