Make Your Own Embroidered Badge

General No Comments »

If you want to lend distinction to a uniform or a garment worn to serve any kind of organization, then badges are great way to do it. Whether your organization is cramping or hiking team, the PTA, scouting troop or any group of motivated people, you can use embroidered badge to symbolize them.

First of all, carefully decide on the themes of your badge. Choose the writing and image that you want to feature on your badge. You can use image, writing or the combination of both. Keep your image minimal and writing simple and short. Start drawing flew layouts of your badge; color them to make sure that your colors really work. Plan out this technique very well until you can execute it effectively. Then, decide on the shape and size of your badge. Draw your shape or size and add image and text elements into it.

Remember that, they must fit your specified size and shape. Carefully decide the background color of embroidered badge. You have to use the cotton twill for your background color. It must provide right amount of contrast to your badge. With the help of regular pencil, trace your badge on a new plane piece of paper. By turning the tracing over and coloring the required area with pencil, make it as dark as you can. With the help of this tracing you can transfer your badge image onto your cloth.

Canon EOS T1i Review

I love photography and bought myself a Canon EOS XSi (450D) last year from amazon.fr. How I wished I had waited as Canon are on the brink of launching their brand new successor to it, the Canon EOS T1i (500D), which is out very soon (early May 2009).

The XSi is a fantastic camera for the price and really builds the bridge between amateur photographer and professional photographer well. I didn’t think they could improve on it to be honest.

But they have. Oh, how well they have.

The EOS T1i delivers so much for its price. Canon have incorporated many features found in the EOS 5d Mk II (which typically costs well over $2500) and packed it into the body of the T1i. And guess what? The dimensions are exactly the same as the XSi before it (save the weight being 5g heavier).

So what does the T1i have over the XSi?

The T1i has 15.1 mega pixels (compared to just 12.2).

More advanced DIGIC 4 processor (compared with the DIGIC III on the XSi).

The ISO range is expandable to 12,800 compared with just 1600.

Video shooting mode – you can use it as a video camera, shooting up to 12 minutes (or 4gb) of full HD video!

HDMI connection for viewing and playback on HDTV.

One really unique feature that interests me greatly is that the T1i has a great feature for beginners – the auto creative zone. When set to one of these zones, the camera will guide you as to what settings to use via the LCD. Basically, the auto creative mode is like having a teacher built in! I am tempted to trade in my old XSi and buy the T1i just for this feature alone!

Many of the other standard features of Canon cameras are still there, like live view, self cleaner sensors, dust delete and so on and storage is on SD or SDHC cards.

Summary:

I am looking forward to the release of this camera in early May and will have to talk my wife into allowing me to upgrade from my existing XSi. This really looks like a cracking camera.

It looks like Canon has again made a great leap and incorporated so many new technologies into such a small body and low price. I can’t think of what they will do next, although wi-fi transfers and printing would be good. Need a fast connection as the highest quality RAW images are going to be well in excess of 20mb.

As I said above, the XSi looked to have bridged the gap between amateur and professional, but the T1i seems to beat that by including a built in tutor! There is nothing worse than being out on the field after reading something, but when you need that info, you have forgotten. The T1i will prompt you with it’s auto creative mode. I would love my XSi to be able to do that.

Perhaps they will also incorporate a mobile phone into the camera as well! Who knows, stranger things have happened!

Ideas For Making Book Reports Fun

Who does not remember the dreaded assignment of a book report? For some children, reading and comprehending a story is difficult enough without the added pressure of writing. Due to the anxiety and negativity that encircles the assignment of a book report, it is essential that teachers do all that they can to make this task fun and interesting. There are several different ways to make a book report fun for students. It is best to offer more creative options for revealing a book rather than simply writing down the details. Try to allow students to choose projects that meet their personality and academic or even nonacademic strengths.

One way for making book reports fun is to allow students to dress as a favorite character from the story. The student chooses a person or animal from the story and mimics the looks and personality. The student comes to class in character form and retells the story to the class from the character’s point of view.

For those students who are too timid to give an oral presentation dressed as a character, allow the option of creating a diorama. A diorama is a physical representation of the book. It can easily be created from a shoebox. Inside the box, the student will display a scene from the story.

Another fun way to get students involved in reading and exploring books is through creating a new cover for the story. This option often appeals to students with a more artistic side. After reading the book, the student creates a new cover to depict a scene from the story. This idea is somewhat similar to making a diorama but it calls for more drawing abilities than building.

Reach students with musical strength by allowing them to create a rap or song that retells the story. Rather than the student writing or talking about the book, suggest that they add music to the presentation.

For those teachers that simply cannot seem to pull themselves away from the traditional sit down and write about the book report, then try making book reports fun by offering students templates. Instead of asking students to create a report in paragraph form, create several different templates in which for them to choose. The students then have an added guideline and can fill in blanks rather than simply write from scratch. Students love to write their book reports into fun shapes and sizes that represent the books they read!

Whether you allow the child to be creative in their presentation or have fun forms for them to fill out, they will enjoy the process much more than if they simply have to write a report on regular paper.

You may also want to try rubrics. Rubrics offer students an opportunity to make completing book reports fun. When students’ have a rubric to follow, they often feel more confident about the work they are completing. Rubrics give students more specific rules for their assignment. They know exactly what is expected from their report. Allow students to complete the rubric by grading their own work and turn it in with their report.

It is important to keep in mind that students can display what they have learned and gathered from a book in other ways than writing a lengthy report. Book reports can come in many different forms and fashions. Allow students to be creative and express themselves. The key to encouraging students to enjoy reading and still assess their comprehension of the story is to make book reports fun through alternative projects.
