To make a “fit” or “not a fit” judgment on the under $500 Compaq Presario notebook, you need to establish you analysis criteria. The major points of analysis are: operating system, processor, memory, hard drive, CD/DVD drive. In this article, I am looking at the Compaq Presario V6000.
When looking at the operating system for your Compaq Presario you must, in the new Vista world, pay attention to which operating system you are getting. No longer are there basically 2 Windows XP versions and later released Media Center Edition. It appears Microsoft initially proposed 7 versions but then whittled them down to 4. You must carefully look at each version because a Vista version does not exactly map to an XP version equivalent.
Second, the Compaq’s processor can make a huge difference in performance. The AMD Turion models have significant differences between one processor and the next level up. If you are not paying close attention, the slower processor (Turion 64 Mobile) has a higher clock speed than the better performing Turion 64 X2 dual core. The thing to remember is that the X2 is dual core which makes all the difference in performance. Over the single core Turion Mobile, the Turion X2 gives you better battery life, thinner, lighter and true multi-tasking.
Third, with the Compaq’s memory, keep in mind that you will be running Vista. A hate to break the news to you…but the under $500 option only has 512MB of memory. This is only a quarter of the amount of memory necessary for good performance out of Windows Vista.
Data recovery freeware is a solid option to consider under certain circumstances. When files are lost as a result of human error as in the case of accidental deletion, freeware can be the right answer. It can also be a good choice when files are lost due to programming issues.
Many people will use a recovery freeware as a starting point in their efforts to restore information on their home PCs. There are any number of paid services which perform recovery of data, and you may need to consider this option if all else fails. There are also programs available for purchase that can recover missing or deleted data that has disappeared from your computer.
Before considering paid options however, you should determine if freeware is the right place to start instead. Data recovery freeware can be helpful in restoring files that are damaged or deleted during an unexpected hardware failure. When your computer or hard drive crashes unexpectedly, there can be data loss. Free software available online can be useful in the recovery of such data.
Regardless of the type of recovery process you pursue, it is possible that data will not be recovered. This is something that you should be aware of from the start, as you may not want to get your hopes too high. Even paid programs and professional recovery services cannot always find and restore the data you’ve lost.
If you’ve lost your information due to your own error, the error of another user, or as a result of a virus infestation, freeware can be a viable option for recovery. As freeware costs nothing to download or use, it can be considered a safe and painless method for attacking your data loss problems.
Free software programs are not always the best route to restore damaged or lost files though, and in certain circumstances you will need to consider other avenues. If true mechanical failure is the reason for lost data, you will need to approach the problem in another manner, and often with the help of a professional.
Ideally, you should select a data recovery freeware that does not require installation of an actual program on your PC. The process of installing a new program can prevent any recovery of your lost data, and therefore, most good freeware programs are available to run online or via a disc.

The Dell 1815dn all in one laser printer provides a value packed printing solution for home or office. The outer case is sleek but the printer weighs nearly forty pounds making this a compact addition to your office that requires a solid base to sit on. We appreciated the handles molded in to the back of the unit that made positioning a bit easier.
The 1815dn has all the necessary cables including USB that permits a one wire quick hookup to your computer. A generous 250 sheet capacity paper try allows you to print more and refill less. Dell offers a higher capacity 500 sheet paper try at additional cost the is recommended for high print volume situations. The 1815dn performed well in our printing tests and delivered up to 24 sheets per minute depending on print quality settings. The LCD readout is not full function but provides enough information including toner replacement or paper refill alerts.
The 1815dn laser printer comes with a 3000 page toner cartridge and is replaceable at a cost of around seventy dollars. The fax capabilities of the 1815dn are respectable and delivered high quality replication. The scan function on the 1815dn provides laser sharp black and white scans but our color tests revealed slight distortion. We like how the 1815dn provides a large button keypad to control both fax and scan functions. The Dell 1815dn is compatible with Windows, Linux, and Mac system. We purchased our 1815dn mfp for $500 and feel like most other Dell products we’ve reviewed that it delivers excellent value and performance for the price.
